NGAC:Embracing COMMUNITY thru CREATIVITY!
|
Community
NEIGHBORHOOD GALLERY ARTS CENTER (NGAC) is
a safe haven for local fine artists and a positive,
enriching, and affordable cultural and educational
opportunity for members of the community. In addition
to two galleries, the facility accommodates a dance
studio, art studios, a reading room and a reception
room for such services as workshops, exhibitions,
recitals, lectures, and spoken word and jam session
nights.
Eastlake Garden Tour
The Neighborhood Gallery and the Eastlake Garden
Club partnered to provide artists and musicians
opportunities to showcase their talent during the 2008
Eastlake Garden Tour. The event was a huge success!
NGAC was especially thankful to ALL of the
participating talented artists, poets, musicians, and
volunteers! The gardens were beautiful but the
showcase of fine arts was the icing on the cake! Even
more impressive was the larger than life sense of
COMMUNITY!
Heritage Garden
What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It’s
the only thing that there’s just too little of…
We at NGAC in Atlanta home of the “Heritage Garden”
are prone to agree, unless, of course, love is in a race
against flowers. We believe the world needs more love,
but it also boasts a huge deficit in flowers. Urban
centers are especially depleted of the colorful
botanicals that oftentimes provide food for the soul.
Yet flowers, herbs, and other foliage have inspired
writers, poets, artists, and scholars since the dawn of
time.
Partially funded by a FISKARS Orange Thumb Grant,
the Heritage Garden project used art as a back drop to
provide youth and adults with instructions in
horticulture as it relates to the American heritage,
nutrition and health while introducing the concept of
“green.” The Neighborhood Gallery Arts Center
relinquished its lawn; furnished a team of talented
instructors, and teamed with community members to
create a sanctuary of learning that will create a mood
for art as it sooths the spirits of an urban community.
